Patrick SAVIDAN | The artist behind the work | Heritage

European Heritage Days 2026 | Art Collection III

Following the white stone, the Hermione, and the « Silk-Horsehair » piece, the third chapter of the 2026 Heritage Collection introduces us to its creator, Patrick Savidan, an expert in artistic assemblage and modern embroidery.

Textiles have been a constant presence in his life since his childhood in Brittany; from shawls, traditional headdresses, and religious procession banners to home sewing and university studies, his focus eventually turned to embroidery.

He has embarked on this path, embroidery, to articulate the essence of the medium, stripped of tradition and pattern. It is almost a concept: a single thread cast out to reveal nothing but its own nature, or multiple threads mingling at random. Rules are subverted; the gesture is free and unpremeditated, resulting in an entanglement of materials that would never have been expected to come together.

With no precise form, set direction, or preparatory sketch, and devoid of hierarchy or code, everything unfolds in the moment and across a span of time that dissolves the boundaries of the creative process itself. He remains close to the work of the monk-copyist and the artisan, engaged in a labor that shapes him as a human being through this artistic practice.

Amidst doubt and silence, Patrick Savidan constructs a nourishing textile materiality woven from threads and inner encounters. His embroideries, works that defy norms and classifications, invite as much reflection as they do description.

Silk-Horsehair is one such work. Featured in the second chapter of this collection, it offers a tangible entry point into the artist’s creative universe. A video produced in 2022, in which the artist himself discusses his creative language, adds a new dimension to the piece: the voice of its creator.

With Silk-Horsehair, craftsmanship transforms into artistic expression. Through this work and the creator’s own words, the KerLuxY gallery highlights the convergence of technical mastery, materiality, and contemporary creation for the Heritage 2026 Collection.
